ANCAP has given the 2021 Kia Carnival (fourth-generation model) a 5-star safety rating after conclusion of the MPV’s recent round of crash tests.
On sale in Australia and New Zealand from January 2021, the people carrier, as standard, comes with dual frontal, side head (all three rows), side chest (front row) and driver knee airbags.
The model that was tested had a 2.2-litre diesel engine and, crucially, the 5-star 2021 Kia Carnival ANCAP safety rating is applicable for all variants of the MPV.
Kia’s 2021 Kia Carnival scored 34.54 out of 38 points in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category. ANCAP says the passenger compartment of the MPV remained stable in the 50 km/hr frontal offset test.
But, the front structure of the Carnival presented a low-moderate risk to the occupants of an oncoming (collision partner) vehicle, resulting in a 2.04 point penalty.
Protection was rated ‘good’ in the 50 km/hr full width frontal crash test and in the 60 km/hr side impact and 32 km/hr oblique pole tests, protection offered to all critical body regions was found to be good as well.
Out of 49 possible points in Child Occupant Protection (COP), the fourth-generation Kia Carnival secured 43.52 points. Maximum points were scored in the frontal offset and side impact tests as protection of the 10-year-old and 6-year-old dummies was found to be good. ISOFIX and top tether anchorages are available in the vehicle in the second row and third row.
When it comes to the vulnerable road user protection tests, the 2021 Kia Carnival ANCAP test scores stood at 36.91 points out of 54. The MPV performed well in the safety assist category as well, for the car scored 13.23 points out of 16.
All variants of the vehicle come with safety assist systems such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping and an advanced speed assistance system, among other safety features.
