Ford is gearing up to launch the Focus and the Focus ST hot hatch in India next year, apart from the Ranger Raptor pickup, about which we reported only recently.
Back in October, it came to light that the American carmaker will launch its performance cars in India so as to build its brand perception (read article here).
To be brought into the country under the 2500-unit homologation exception rule, the Ranger Raptor will not be alone and will be accompanied by the Focus and Focus ST to the market.
While it is not exactly a performance model, the Focus (rivals the Volkswagen Golf in international markets) will nevertheless be a welcome addition to Ford’s Indian lineup.
The sizeable hatch will be powered by a 125 PS 1.0-litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost petrol motor, while a 160 PS 2.0-litre turbo petrol option will also be available.
But, the Focus ST, with a 2.3-litre turbo petrol engine putting out 280 PS and 420 Nm, is indeed a performance model that is capable of reaching 100 km/hr from nought in under 6 seconds.
In international markets the hot hatch is available with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic options and because the car’s cost will be high in India, Ford might only bring the automatic version here.
It will come with Recaro seats, ride on 19-inch wheels, sport model-specific changes both on the outside, inside and to the chassis, compared with the regular Focus, and will be sold in limited numbers.
Regular models will not be forgotten either. Towards the end of 2021, after the Ford Focus ST launch, the next-generation Figo is set to get launched in the market and in 2022, Ford will introduce its C-SUV and the new EcoSport as well.
