Ford is looking to launch its Territory midsize SUV in the coming months in India to sit above the EcoSport compact SUV in its lineup.
After breaking up with Mahindra, the American carmaker halted all projects that were being worked upon under the joint venture last month (read article here).
While it was not clear as to what actions Ford will take with regard to the new SUVs that were being developed with its former Indian partner, recent developments point toward Ford bringing in its own vehicle, the Territory, to the market.
Sold in select southeastern Asian countries like the Philippines, the Ford Territory measures 4580 mm long, 1936 mm wide, 1674 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2716 mm.
The 5-seat midsize SUV comes with LED headlamps with DRLs upfront with a blacked out grille and skid plate. Along the sides, the car has a rising beltline, blacked C-pillar, alloy wheels (17- or 18-inch ones), while at the rear there are split LED tail lights, a roof spoiler and a chunky rear bumper with a fairly large skid plate.
Inside, there are leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 10-inch digital instrument cluster (top variant), a 10-inch touchscreen, keyless entry with push button start, auto-dimming IRVM, electronic parking brake with auto hold function, among other features.
The car comes powered by a 1.5-litre EcoBoost motor making 143 PS of max power and 225 Nm of torque in overseas markets and the engine comes mated to a CVT.
Also, the Territory comes with safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, ESC, and advanced driver assistance systems, apart from tech like front and rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera and active park assist.
When the Ford Territory India launch takes place, it will rival the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector, among others and it is likely that India-specific changes will be made to the car.
