Ford India renamed the Fiesta to the Fiesta Classic when they launched the sixth generation Fiesta in 2011. The American automaker has now dropped the Fiesta name from the old Fiesta, renaming the old car to just ‘Ford Classic’. This move has been done in order to prevent further confusion with the Fiesta brand name. The Ford Classic has been doing good numbers, proving to be a fitting replacement to the legendary josh machine. The Ikon is the fourth generation Fiesta and was pulled off the market after sales dropped to an all time low.
Ford has also added more features on the Classic, which will make it appeal to a larger audience. The reason for Ford to pay attention on the Classic is that the car is the most selling Ford vehicle in India (after the Figo), with close to 1000 units being sold every month. The new Fiesta sells around 200 units on an average, which is not really impressive considering the superb machine it is. Ford had recently altered the variants of the new Fiesta post the launch of the Fiesta PowerShift automatic version.
The Ford Classic now gets beige interiors, speed sensing door locks, speed sensing audio volume, keyless entry, Bluetooth music system, body colored rear view mirrors, new alloy wheels, black front grille and indicators on the rear view mirrors. The variants have been renamed to Ambiente for the base, Style for the middle variant and Titanium for the top-end variant. Power continues to come from the 1.4-litre DuraTorq diesel engine and 1.6-litre DuraTech petrol engine. Prices have been maintained to ensure the Classic draws in similar sales numbers as before.
Update – The Ford Classis is available in red, black, silver, grey, white and chill metallic colours. The Titanium variant of the Classic petrol is priced at Rs. 6.86 lakhs while the diesel variant is priced at Rs. 7.82 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Ford claims the diesel variant of the Classic returns 32.38 km/l (as per ARAI according to a mileage run), which makes it a very fuel efficient car. The petrol version of the Classic is rated at 21.27 km/l.
