The affected units of the EcoSport have been recalled for a fuel and vapour line corrosion as well as problems with the wiring harness for the correct deployment of side airbags.
Its highest selling model in the country, Ford has issued a recall exercise affecting 20,700 units of the EcoSport compact SUV in India that were manufactured between June 2013 and September 2014. The units have been called back to service centres for corrosion in the fuel and vapour line and reorientation of the wiring harness for right deployment of the side airbags. The American automaker has already started contacting customers and is asking them to bring the vehicles to service centres.
Ford India is recalling 19,441 units of the top-end Titanium variant with the 1.5-litre diesel or 1.0-litre petrol engines to rectify the issue with the seat belt sensor that decides to deploy the side airbags. Out of the total vehicles, 2715 units are that of the petrol variant and will be checked for corrosion in the fuel line. A total of 1404 units have both the issues and need to be fixed. While Ford has not acknowledged yet, but it is reported that few customers had raised complaints in the past over the issue.
Globally Ford has recalled 34,132 cars for the vapour and fuel line corrosion issue, while 8666 units of the EcoSport have been affected with the airbags wiring issue and were manufactured at the automaker’s China facility. The Indian units on the other hand are produced at the company’s Tamil Nadu plant. All repairs will be carried out by the company free of cost on the affected models. Ford had recalled 1000 units of the EcoSport few days after the launch in July last year.
