Ford is considering introducing a limited number of Ranger Raptor performance pickup truck in India. It is expected to be launched in the second-half of 2021.
It’s not your regular lifestyle vehicle like the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Ranger Raptor is a high-performance Baja race truck inspired model. Likely to be priced upwards of Rs. 70 lakhs in India.
Seems like the American carmaker is focusing on their brand building to showcase their unique identity. They’ll soon launch Mahindra based products in the market and just to keep their identity strong, Ford will have a premium portfolio on offer as well.
Also, looking at the recent spy shots of Ford Rangers undergoing tests across the country, we believe Ford plans to introduce a locally produced regular variant of Ranger in the near future. That’s why they plan to launch Raptor to build its brand name.
Considering the fact that Toyota is also coming up with Hilux pickup truck with high localisation, it’s a good strategy by Ford to be in the game.
The Ranger Raptor will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 213 HP and 500 Nm of torque. It gets a strengthened ladder frame to take big impacts on rough roads.
The front suspension has been retuned to take extra load while the rear suspension is replaced by Watt’s linkage. The Raptor gets 30 percent more wheel travel to absorb rough patches at high speed.
It comes with a huge 283 mm ground clearance and is capable of 800 mm water-wading depth. The 4-wheel drive comes with six modes with the Terrain Management System including grass, gravel, snow, rock climbing and Baja mode.
