A unit of the Ford Ranger pickup truck has been spied in India, foreshadowing the launch of the model in the future.
We have procured the image of what seems to be the base variant of the 4×4 pickup truck thanks to MotorBeamer Mouli Sankar who spotted it in Coimbatore.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross rival, painted in white, is a pre-facelift third-generation double cab model that is riding on steel wheels and is missing the rear light cluster.
Wearing test vehicle number plates, the pickup truck, which is based on the Endeavour’s platform, if launched in India would rival the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, the BS6 version of which is yet to be launched.
However, there is another theory that it could be a test bed for future products from Ford and Mahindra. But, we do not know for sure at the moment.
In Thailand, the pickup comes powered by three diesel engine options – a 2.2-litre turbo diesel (160 PS, 385 Nm), 2.0-litre turbo diesel (180 PS, 420 Nm) and a 2.0-litre twin turbo unit (213 PS, 500 Nm).
However, due to Ford’s partnership with Mahindra under which the firms will share engines and platforms, the pickup truck might be powered by a Mahindra diesel motor if at all it gets launched here.
We know that Toyota too is looking to bring its Hilux pickup truck and if Ford Ranger pickup truck, spied while testing on our roads, also gets launched, the segment will finally gain some much needed competition and thus traction.
