Rejoice everybody, the Ford Mustang facelift India launch is expected to take place by early 2021 and it will come with a 450 HP 5.0-litre V8.
Ford launched its famous pony car in India four years ago and it was an instant success. The American manufacturer has so far sold 450 units of the Mustang in our country in GT guise.
Having tasted good success, Ford will not want to lose out to the BMW Z4 Roadster (from Rs. 64.9 lakhs) and the Porsche 718 models (from Rs. 85 lakhs) that are currently not facing any heat in our country.
The Mustang facelift will once again come in GT variant only and will sport quite a few changes in comparison to the earlier model that was sold in India.
The changes were made back in 2018 on international models because the 2017 model year car fared poorly in the Euro NCAP crash test, scoring only two stars.
But Ford added more safety equipment to the Mustang facelift and did not stop there. It also gave the car improvements on the outside and inside.
The front bumper has changed, there are LEDs below the headlights with turn indicators and the lower air dam has been restyled while there is a new chin spoiler.
On the bonnet are two air scoops that will aid in drag-reduction, while the sides remain the same. The rear of the car gets new LED lights and a small lip spoiler for added stability.
Inside, a new digital instrument cluster is accompanied with subtle upgradation of fit and finish and material quality, while the infotainment system will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are different drive modes to choose from as well.
Powering the Ford Mustang will be a 5.0-litre V8 producing 450 HP at 7000 RPM. American V8s are known for their lazy nature and strong torque, but this engine will rev up to 7500 RPM.
The engine has dual injectors, cast-aluminium pistons and forged connecting rods and will come mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
The rear limited slip differential will ensure that all the power the 1743 kg muscle car makes is transferred onto the wheels for it to handle like a dream.
The Ford Mustang facelift India launch is expected to happen by early 2021, if not at the end of this year and is expected to be priced around Rs. 75 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Additionally, Ford might also bring its resurrected Mach 1 a limited-edition model that packs a 480 HP version of Ford’s 5.0-litre V8 to India.
The new Mach 1 has a heritage-inspired look with a different front-end and black stripes on the bonnet and bodysides.
There are different aerodynamic elements, cooling and performance upgrades from the Shelby GT350 and GT500 on the car.
