Ford MPV design patent leaked, likely to be made locally in India
Ford is in the news these days as the American carmaker is preparing to make a comeback in the Indian market. They recently filed a design patent of what seems to look like an MPV. They are not selling this model anywhere across the globe right now. This could be one of their new India-centric projects with local manufacturing for both domestic and international markets.
The front profile of this MPV looks clean with sleek headlights, huge Ford grille and sculpted bumper design. Notice the huge panoramic sunroof along with shark fin antenna. The side profile looks lengthy with subtle lines across the shoulder. It comes with cladding on the lower half of the body. However, the wheels look small compared to the overall size of the MPV.
The mysterious new MPV seems to belong to the segment where Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, Toyota Rumion and Kia Carens compete. We have no official confirmation from Ford about the product but if they manage to price it aggressively while offering advanced tech with potent and fuel efficient engine options (including diesel), they might win the Indian audience’s heart back.
Ford has also filed a patent for a compact SUV to compete with the Hyundai Creta segment. The prototype was spotted before they exited the Indian market. However, they might revive the project with slightly tweaked design to sell it as Ford EcoSport successor in the Indian market with heavy localisation.
The American carmaker is also planning to re-introduce the Endeavour in its new generation avatar. It will retain its international nomenclature – Everest. The SUV will be imported directly initially and will compete head-on with the Toyota Fortuner. However, expect the pricing to be on the heavier side due to the CBU taxes.
