The Ford EcoSport gets some much-awaited changes that include cosmetic tweaks, interior upgrades and power enhancements but only in Europe currently.
Ford has given its hot-selling compact SUV, the EcoSport a minor update in terms of cosmetics as well as mechanics. The front of the SUV looks largely the same and the only noticeable changes that we can make out are the new DRLs which have a tinge of blue and the slightly tweaked skid plate at the bottom of the front bumper. The side profile does not get any changes while the rear has the most significant change, i.e. deletion of the spare wheel from the boot. The spare wheel will now sit inside the boot and the hatch offers a partial opening function.
The layout of the dashboard is still the same. The centre console of the EcoSport gets minor tweaks and the steering gets lesser buttons. The instrument cluster gets chrome surround rings and the seats are made up of partial leather. Ford has decreased the ride height by 10 mm and the suspension has also been tweaked with new springs and shocks. The torsion beam gets a bit stiffer now. Euro markets will also get ESC in the EcoSport now. The 1.5-litre TDCI engine produced 90 PS of power till now, but the automaker has retuned it and it now generates an extra 5 PS of power.
The TDCI engine has a fuel efficiency of 22.72 km/l while the Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine with 125 PS of power returns 18.51 km/l in the European spec of the vehicle. The Ford EcoSport facelift is expected to make its way to India also, since the vehicle hasn’t got any updates till now. The compact SUV has enjoyed a nice monopoly in the segment but Ford will now face competition with the launch of new rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross which are due for launch later this month.
