Ford EcoSport Launch On 11th June, Bookings Open Unofficially

11th June 2013 is one of the most important dates for the Indian market as well as Ford this year, when the American automaker will be launching the much awaited compact SUV, the Ford EcoSport. After a long wait, Ford is finally introducing the sub 4-metre SUV in the Indian market. Ford India is focusing on heavy localization for the EcoSport to ensure an affordable price tag, hence the delay in launch. The company is betting big on the EcoSport, which they hope will lift up their fortunes and help in attaining improved market share.

Ford dealerships have also started taking bookings for the EcoSport for Rs. 50,000/-, albeit unofficially. The EcoSport is available in four trim levels and with three engine options. Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium Option are the four variants on offer. The popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine produces 123 BHP of power and will be available only on the range topping Titanium variants. The Ford Fiesta derived 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines produce 110 BHP and 90 BHP of power respectively.

The 1.5-litre diesel engined EcoSport will be offered in all four variants, while the 1.5-litre petrol manual will be offered in all variants except the Titanium Option. All engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, whereas, only the 1.5-litre petrol engine will have an option of the 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission with Hill Hold Assist and ESP (Electronic Stability Programme). The Ford EcoSport is well equipped with features and intends to compete head on with the likes of the Renault Duster.
