The Ford EcoSport is shipped to a host of markets overseas and is also a popular offering in India with frugal petrol and diesel engine options.
The EcoSport was Ford India’s second mass market offering in the country that only catapulted the American carmaker’s fortunes in recent times. The sub 4-metre compact SUV really kickstarted something in its segment and has for all reasons been a consistent seller in the domestic and export markets and has just achieved a milestone of 2,00,000 unit sales within a period of two years. Out of the total sales, over 1,12,000 units have been sold to customers in India while the rest have been shipped overseas.
The Ford EcoSport was launched with massive hype in 2013 and clocked 30,000 bookings within days of its introduction in the market. The compact SUV also became the most awarded vehicle ever within a year of its introduction bagging more than 30 accolades including MotorBeam’s 2013 SUV of the year. The EcoSport also became the first Ford vehicle in India to get the highly advanced 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, churning out 125 PS and 170 Nm of torque, in addition to the 1.5-litre petrol motor producing 112 PS and 140 Nm of torque. Diesel power comes from a 1.5-litre TDCi unit churning out 91 PS and 204 Nm of torque.
Over the years, Ford India introduced its vehicle personalisation program on the EcoSport offering customisation options to customers while it also introduced features like SYNC AppLink on the compact SUV to enhance in-car connectivity options. Ford India exports the EcoSport to a host of markets including South Africa, Taiwan, Australia and several European countries. The automaker is likely to introduce an updated version of the SUV around the festive season this year to keep the model fresh against new competition coming in the form of the Mahindra TUV300.
