When launched, the Ford Aspire Electric will be the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle globally.
Back in September 2017, Ford and Mahindra partnered up by announcing a strategic alliance to utilise each others’ prowess in the automobile industry. While the duo is also working on an all-new SUV platform, the first product to result from this alliance will be Ford Aspire Electric. It is believed that the vehicle could land at our shores as early as next year which will give it a first-mover advantage because major players are planning to focus on electric mobility solutions only by the end of this decade.
As the name suggests, the Ford Aspire Electric is a battery-powered version of the Aspire which is also going to be over 4-metres in length, unlike its current counterpart. Mahindra is said to be actively involved in the development process of the car which will also be the cheapest electric vehicle in Ford’s global portfolio. The electric version is likely to retain the exterior and interior design theme of the current petrol/diesel powered Aspire.
Currently, there are no details about the specifications of the final product but it is possible that the Ford Aspire Electric is built on the lines of the Mahindra e-Verito. Promising a range of 110 kms on a single charge, the Mahindra e-Verito employs a 200 Ah battery to power its 72 Volt induction motor. Moreover, the two brands look forward to bag government orders for supply of electric vehicles in India with this partnership.
