Force Motors which is famous for its brands like the Tempo, Trax and Traveller are in talks with the Gujarat Govt for setting up its manufacturing facility to manufacture commercial vehicles. Force Motors has a very small presence in the commercial vehicle business and wants to increase this, which is why it is setting up the plant. The company will be acquiring close to 700 to 800 acres either in Sanand or Halol and will be investing about Rs. 2000 crores.
This information was shared with a source close to the development. However, Prasan Firodia, managing director, Force Motors declined to make any comment on the investment details. Currently, the company makes its commercial vehicles at its Pithampur facility in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, the plant is running at 65% capacity but with addition of more new models, the capacity will be totally utilized.
Force Motors is also gearing up to launch a 7 to 9 seater vehicle that will compete with the Toyota Innova, the Mahindra Xylo and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Force Motors will be producing it under the license of Daimler AG and will be launching it in the Indian market early next year. The company is planning to invest a total of Rs. 350 crores for the project. Force Motors also plans to launch a higher trim version of its SUV, the Force One with four-wheel drive, airbag and other features.
