The US based auto giant, General Motors has been carrying out a significant amount of research into the development of electric cars. In 2011, the company showcased an electric version of its compact hatchback, the Spark (called the Beat in India). After the showcase however, the company went totally quiet on the development of the vehicle sparking many comments and criticisms from public.
However, it looks like the company had been carrying out the development of the vehicle under highly guarded circumstances. The first set of spy pictures have now surfaced on the net, thanks to Worldcarfans who caught the electric Spark on camera when it apparently came for a car wash. The Chevrolet Spark has been a good hit among the buyers globally due to its sporty looks and peppy engine. From the spy shots, few differences can be clearly identified like the slightly restyled front fascia and a new rear bumper.
The electric Spark EV wouldn’t carry an engine around for which the exhaust pipe routing at the back has been done away with. This is the reason the car gets a restyled rear bumper. On the other hand, the car will be powered by a permanent magnet electric motor that produces 114 BHP of power. More details are likely to be revealed in due course. Although there are less chances the car will make to the Indian market, it has the potential to rival with the Reva/ Reva NXR.
