Maruti Suzuki is testing 50 prototype electric vehicles on Indian roads.
When the world is looking toward electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki is going one step further. As Maruti has promised to introduce electric vehicles by 2020, the company has started testing its EVs on Indian roads today onwards.
Senior Executive Director – Mr. C.V. Raman flagged off 50 prototype electric vehicles from the company’s Gurugram facility. These electric vehicles have been produced exclusively by the Suzuki Japan team. As per Maruti’s commitment to Make in India, the cars have been modified at the company’s plant in Manesar.
This real-life test on the Indian terrain with multiple climate conditions will help the company get proper feedback. This feedback will help in the actual production of electric vehicle technology in India.
These prototype electric vehicles have been developed on the existing Wagon R that is sold by Suzuki in Japan. Maruti Suzuki has succeeded with their commitments on the Make in India project. The automaker is expected to roll out their first electric cars in the market by 2020.
