Fiat’s 1.3-Litre Multijet Engine Hits 50 Lakh Units Milestone

Fiat’s remarkable 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine has reached a historic milestone of 50,00,000 units produced at the Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Poland factory in Bielsko-Biala. The 1.3 Multijet diesel engine is indeed a great success for the Italian manufacturer. Many car companies in India as well as in the International market are sourcing this engine to power their cars. The 1.3 Multijet consists of 4-cylinders in-line, 16-valves and 1248cc of displacement. The diesel engine is in production since 2003 and was the first engine produced with MultiJet technology.

The Multijet engines are the second generation uniJet Turbo Diesel common rail units developed by the Fiat Group in 1997. The 1.3 MultiJet engine is available with different states of tune from different versions. From the fixed geometry turbocharger version, it produces 70 HP to 75 HP of power and from the high-performance variable geometry turbocharger version, it is capable of producing 85 HP to 95 HP of power. The 5 millionth 1.3 Multijet engine rolling out of the Poland plant has a power rating of 85 HP and will be powering a Fiat 500L.

The 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel engine is well known for offering decent performance along with high fuel mileage. In India, brands like Maruti Suzuki, General Motors and Tata Motors rely on this popular engine for maximum sales, as the demand for diesel engines in India is increasing rapidly. Different manufacturers have badged the 1.3 Mutlijet engine with different names, Suzuki likes to call it DDiS, Tata Motors names it Quadrajet, while GM uses the Smartech moniker.
