Within the next couple of years, Fiat will start manufacturing a new Jeep model in India which will be exported to other countries as well. It will be priced at around Rs. 15 lakhs.
It was a few years ago that the buzz came out about Fiat launching the Jeep brand in India. All the off-roading enthusiasts and Jeep lovers were overjoyed. Soon cars were imported to India for testing and homologation after which reviews started coming out. But ever since, the SUVs are only being spotted testing in the country with no launch date in sight. Recently, the Italian carmaker announced that it would invest Rs. 1800 crores in India to assemble Jeep SUVs for the world at its Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra which is a world class facility.
While this news did make some people happy and hopeful of a launch in the country soon, Fiat has now said that it is developing a new SUV under the Jeep brand codenamed the ‘C SUV’ for now. This SUV will be manufactured in India with components sourced from various suppliers in the country and this will help keep its price low. Touted to be a global model, the new SUV will be exported to various countries like South Africa, Britain and Australia. The best part about the new development is that it will cost around Rs. 15 lakhs when launched in India. Yes, you heard it right!
The Jeep brand has a legacy associated with it and has a rich heritage behind its name. Known to be the originators of the SUV vehicle type and initiated the off-roading frenzy, the company has some excellent products in its global lineup. However, there has been no communication on when other Jeep cars will be launched in India. While the right-hand drive model of the upcoming ‘C SUV’ would be made in India, the left-hand drive ones would be made at some other plants located abroad. A launch in the second quarter of 2017 is what is being looked at for now and we hope there aren’t any delays this time around.
