Fiat has launched the new Fiat Tipo hatchback and estate, both of which are based on the Tipo sedan. The cars have been unveiled at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Fiat Tipo (also known as Egea) is a quintessential European sedan with clean lines, a beautiful looking grille and a trendy headlamp cluster. But the recent trend of the car market in Europe has seen car buyers preferring hatchbacks over traditional sedans due to the functionality of a fifth door and overall cohesive looking shape of the car. Thus not to be left behind in the game, Fiat has launched a hatchback and estate version of their Tipo sedan.
Fiat Tipo Hatchback
The Fiat Tipo hatchback is just the sedan version minus the hood. The boot of the Fiat Tipo has been replaced by a hatch and wrap-around windows. The styling is neutral with nothing too flashy in order to appeal to a broader number of customers. The car has new boomerang-shaped tail-lights and the boot has a capacity of 440-litres. The Tipo hatchback is 4370 mm long, 1790 mm wide and 1500 mm tall and can easily accommodate three six-feet-plus adult passengers in the rear seats.
Fiat Tipo Estate
The Fiat Tipo estate is the long-roofed version of the Tipo sedan which gets additional 100-litres of boot space, taking it up to 550-litres. The estate gets a third window as well as roof rails to facilitate carrying of skiing equipment or a roof rack. The car can also carry a load of 1800 mm in length due to its extra 200 mm of length, 60/40 rear split seats and a completely flat floor.
The Fiat Tipo hatchback and estate comes in three trim levels with air conditioning, electric mirrors, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity, with steering wheel remote controls as standard. The engine range will comprise five options in total.
There are two diesel engines on offer – a 1.3-litre MultiJet II producing 95 BHP and a 1.6-litre MultiJet II with an output of 120 BHP, while the petrol engine range comprises a 1.4-litre producing 95 BHP, a 1.4 turbo petrol with 120 BHP and the 1.6-litre e-TorQ mill producing 110 BHP. The powerplant sends output to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
