Fiat Re-Starts Jeep Testing In India As Launch Nears

Fiat has started testing the Jeep SUVs in India once again as the launch is not too far away now. An early 2016 launch date seems to be likely.

The Grand Cherokee will be the flagship vehicle of the Jeep brand

The off-roading community in India has been left high and dry for quite some time now because the market doesn’t really have too many options when it comes to potent off-roaders in stock form itself. One might argue that there are Range Rovers, Land Rovers and other premium SUVs available but truth is that no one would put such pricey vehicles through its paces at an off-road course. The only solution to the given problem lies with Fiat. It will soon launch a few SUVs from the Jeep brand in India and the best part is that they might be assembled in India from day one keeping prices in check.

The Jeep brand has been known to produce vehicles most suitable for off-roading duties and over time they have also become decent daily drives. This makes them the perfect SUVs for the enthusiasts who would want a car to perform the daily duties within the city and then some off-road action over the weekend. For those wanting the iconic Jeep look, they can look at the Wrangler Sport and Wrangler Unlimited models which get the much known Jeep front grille along with the round headlamps. The others who yearn for more luxury can take a look at the Grand Cherokee which is a proper luxury SUV.

While the Wrangler Sport is powered by a petrol engine only in every country it is sold in, it is likely that the same 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine will power it here too. The Wrangler Unlimited which is the 4-door version gets a more practical 2.8-litre diesel engine producing a healthy 197 BHP of power and 460 Nm of torque. The Grand Cherokee gets a bigger diesel engine in the form of a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel which produces 247 BHP of power and a mammoth 570 Nm of torque. Since the testing of the vehicles has restarted in India, the launch is expected by the beginning of 2016. But since it is Fiat, one never knows.
