One of our favorite hatchbacks in the country today, the Fiat Punto is about to be launched in new avatars in the near future and these will be displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo. We are aware of the Italian carmaker to introduce the Fiat Punto Abarth, which is a sportier and performance oriented version. Then we will witness the launch of Fiat Punto Evo, which is an updated version of the current Punto. Now we have come across some spyshots of the upcoming Fiat Punto Adventure, which is a rugged version of the regular Punto.
The rear profile of the Fiat Punto Adventure is heavily camouflaged in the spyshots while the front and side panels remain uncamouflaged. This strongly hints about the upcoming Fiat Punto Adventure to have a tail gate mounted spare wheel that gives a sense of a compact SUV, or rather hatchback on steroids feeling. The Punto Adventure will feature a new bumper with a swing-arm to support the tail mounted wheel. Other than that, we can expect the Punto Adventure to get black plastic cladding all around for that robust appearance.
We don’t expect changes in terms of mechanicals and features over the regular Punto. The Punto Adventure is likely to be launched with the range topping trim and 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine option that produces 90 BHP of power and 209 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. We have seen the weak market response to the Volkswagen Cross Polo and Skoda Fabia Scout that came only with plastic cladding and roof rails. Now Fiat is betting big on the tail gate mounted spare wheel of the Fiat Punto Adventure, it would be interesting to see if it manages to woo buyers in India.
