Fiat has revealed the Abarth 595 Competizione on its Indian website and the launch is expected soon. It will be the first Abarth offering in the country.
If there’s one category of cars that can stir up the soul like a supercar, it is the hot hatches. Packing in good amount of punch, these nimble little rats can give much bigger cars a run for their money when it comes to performance and provide an adrenaline rush like nothing else. With powerful engines, small dimensions and balanced dynamics, these hatches can be used for the daily commute and make it fun at the same time. Currently, we have only one true hot hatch in the country in the form of the Mini Cooper S. However, that is about to change very soon.
Fiat will soon be launching the Abarth brand in India. In the beginning, it will be launching the Abarth 595 Competizione here through a network of four Abarth exclusive dealers in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. What is surprising is that there is no dealer in Maharashtra although the carmaker is based out of the same state. The company has updated the website with some details of the pocket rocket. The car gets quite a lot of interesting upgrades over a standard 500 and certainly looks the part. Performance upgrades like the bigger brake discs and 17 inch alloy wheels set the pulse racing.
Dimension wise, the Abarth 595 is smaller than the Mini Cooper S and stand at 3657mm in length, 1893mm in width and 1485mm in height. Short wheelbase will make it a hoot to drive and the low kerb weight of around 1075 kgs will give it an astonishing power to weight ratio. Fiat recently announced that the 1.4-litre T-Jet motor powering the 595 would be getting a 20 BHP boost but it remains to be seen whether we get the updated car with 178 BHP of power or the older one with 160 BHP. Nonetheless, it shall be an extremely exciting proposition for the petrolheads who would want to spend less and make this little bug their weekend toy for those fun-filled outings.
