Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in February this year, the Avventura is Fiat’s iteration of a pseudo crossover entering the Indian automotive market to take on the Volkswagen Cross Polo and the recently launched Toyota Etios Cross. While the former did not really put the sales charts on fire and the Etios Cross is yet to prove itself; Fiat is hoping the Avventura will be able to add some spice in this otherwise bland sub-segment.
The latest spy shots of the Fiat Avventura test mules come from Teamfiat.com member Aditya. Unlike the earlier test mules that surfaced on the web, these images caught the Avventura testing with a complete body kit inclusive of roof rails, boot mounted spare wheel and diamond cut alloy wheels. The concept model showcased at the Auto Expo also received black body cladding on the front and rear bumper and the doors that will be extended to the production version as well.
Based on the Punto hatchback, the Avventura gets a higher ground clearance, new headlamp design that will also be seen on the facelifted Punto and will come minus the projector lights shown on the concept. The crossover also gets a swinging tail gate (like on the Ford EcoSport) adding the rugged appeal. The interiors on the other hand are expected to be shared with the Linea facelift as well, albeit certain cosmetic changes and new upholstery added.
In terms of powertrain, the Fiat Avventura is most likely to feature the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine producing 90 PS of power, and the 75 PS variant could also be offered as a base version. While the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines power the Punto, we expect the 1.4-litre mill producing 90 PS of power to make it under the hood of the Avventura. The crossover will be launched by the end of this year, priced from Rs. 8 lakh onwards.
