Fiat 124 is a retro styled convertible car launched by the Italian carmaker in a bid to celebrate 50 years of the original Fiat 124 that was a mid-size family car.
Fiat has unveiled a gorgeous open-top two-seater at the 2015 LA Auto Show. It has been introduced in a bid to celebrate 50 years of the original Fiat 124. The convertible looks gorgeous from all angles with its classic yet modern harmony of styling. Based on the Mazda Miata, the Fiat 124 has a long hood, small cabin area and a well finished tail section. It has a very smooth flow of lines along with some interesting bits including the offbeat headlamp design and the detailed LED tail lights.
The interiors of the Fiat 124 also gets minimalistic styling yet looks classy. There are some sporty bits to admire such as the three-spoke steering wheel, three-pod instrument cluster, gorgeous manual gear lever and manual hand brake. It gets a subtle beige and black combination with silver accents thrown on the dashboard for a premium look. There is an all black variant too that looks quite inviting for enthusiasts. Fiat has provided a big screen too for the infotainment system.
Powering the Fiat 124 Spider is an Abarth sourced 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 160 BHP of maximum power and 241 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The Mazda Miata gets 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines. The Fiat 124 is a rear-wheel drive car so you can imagine the fun behind the wheel driving a compact convertible with a punchy engine under the hood and a manual gearbox.
The Fiat 124 Spider will be available in two variants – Classica and Lusso and six colour options. During the launch, Fiat will be offering 124 limited edition units of the car in Prima Edizione Lusso special edition with a blue Azzuro Italia paint, Saddle leather seats and a commemorative plaque. While the Italian beauty will go on sale in global markets in the second half of 2016, we don’t expect Fiat to launch the car in India anytime soon.
