Ferrari begins testing their first EV
Ferrari has had discussions of launching an EV since 2019 and now finally we are able to guess what it could be. A test mule of the future EV has been spied testing. At first glance I was excited thinking that Ferrari is finally stepping in the hot hatch game, further realising it is an EV SUV (new cash cow?)
Spied in Maranello with faux exhaust tips (haha, can’t fool us so easily) the high voltage sticker defines that an electric motor is present in the vehicle. Though Ferrari hasn’t revealed what segment and shape this car will be it seems to be based on the Maserati Levante and has headlights from the Ferrari Roma alongside the newly designed wheels which look stunning.
Ferrari has also promised that their first EV will deliver an “authentic” noise, dream away all you want with this information. The prospect will be built at the newly inaugurated factory at Maranello and is said to be out by 2025. The car is rumoured to cost over $500,000. Although the CEO refuses to confirm this rumour.
Ferrari’s future with the EV’s
Though Ferrari is adapting to the EV revolution, it has no plans of stopping ICE production, specifically the V12 engines. Head of Product Marketing Emanuele Carando recently said the twelve-cylinder powerhouse will remain in production until it is outlawed. Which is indeed good news for enthusiasts who can and can’t afford Ferrari’s “Art”. The Italian exotic marque estimates that the first EV would account for five percent of total shipments in 2026.
The Italian car maker is planning a major shift towards electric vehicles by 2030. Projecting that 20% of their cars of their cars will be ICE. The remaining 80% being a mix of plug in hybrids and fully electric cars. Their first electric car is expected to make up 5% of their sales in 2026 . Reportedly a second one is on the way.
