The Mahindra XUV300 is the new boy in the top 25 list, sitting on the 20th position.
February 2019 has been an extremely tough month for car manufacturers as vehicle sales declined owing to weak consumer sentiments, tightening liquidity after the infrastructure leasing and financial services crisis and increased insurance costs hampering purchases.
Maruti Suzuki Alto continues to be in the top position and is one of the few cars that saw a positive trend in sales. The first six positions have been taken by Maruti, with the rankings shifting between Dzire, Swift and Baleno, with the Swift coming second. The new Wagon R made it to the top five by rising from the 9th position. The biggest drop in ranking is seen in the Maruti Celerio from 10th position last month to a shocking 22nd in February with a negative 61% in sales. Tata Tiago replaced Celerio’s 10th position by selling 8286 units and a positive 3% rise in sales.
Another new car not selling so great is the Hyundai Santro which dipped to 15th position due to a decrease in sales by 14%. The Elite i20, Creta and Grand i10 are in the top ten occupying the 7th, 8th and 9th positions respectively. The Verna also made it to the top 25 list and is positioned 23rd.
Another new entry into the list is the Mahindra XUV300 which sold 4484 units in the first month of its launch. The Bolero rose to the 12th rank even after seeing a mere dip of 0.3%. Scorpio sold 447 units less in February. The Marazzo didn’t make it into the top 25 cars this time.
Honda cars like Amaze and City didn’t fare well and rolled a few ranks down to 17th and 24th positions respectively. The only Renault car on the list is Kwid which saw an increase in sales of 7%. The Ford EcoSport saw a decrease in sales by 30% and secured the last position in the list.
