Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has planned to invest approximately Rs. 1100 crores ($150 million) to set up a new Global Digital Hub at Hyderabad in Telangana.
Called FCA ICT India, the facility, once completed, would significantly expand the group’s presence in the country, says FCA.
To be the firm’s largest global digital hub outside of North America and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), it will help the group in building strategic competencies in artificial intelligence, cloud tech, and connected vehicle programmes.
Other areas, FCA ICT India will concentrate on, and drive innovation in, include customer safety and digital showroom experience, among others.
According to the group, FCA ICT India will establish an ecosystem of strategic partners, startups, digital accelerators and universities.
It will also create nearly 1000 new jobs by the end of 2021 and even more in the next 2-3 years as the group plans to increase hiring.
FCA already has major presence in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu as its product development operations are based out of Pune and Chennai. It employs 3000 people at the moment.
Chief Information Officer, FCA – Asia Pacific and North America, Mamatha Chamarthi noted that one of the key objectives of the new FCA Global Digital Hub will be to digitise every aspect of FCA’s automotive operations through adoption of emerging technologies.
President and Managing Director, FCA India, Partha Datta, stated that the FCA ICT India will be the group’s technology backbone that will help in creation of digitally-driven products and technologies locally for India and the world.
