Ola Electric three wheeler design leaked via patent images, to get two variants
Ola Electric is set to launch new three wheeler variants very soon. The design details of both the variants have been leaked ahead of the official announcement. The production version of the e-rickshaw is likely to be called Raahi.
It has minimalistic design language for offering better space and practicality. The front profile gets square headlights, large windshield, A-pillar mounted ORVMs and it gets doors to cover the cabin for better safety we believe. It’ll be a big move in the segment if Ola plans to offer air conditioning in their new three-wheelers.
There is a goods carrier version as well with a sizeable looking loading bay that we believe will be customisable for clients with different needs.
The electric vehicle maker will introduce the new three wheelers very soon. The move comes amidst the company’s preparations for its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO).
The decision to venture into the electric three-wheeler segment aligns with Ola Electric’s broader strategy to diversify its product portfolio, tapping into the growing demand for eco-friendly commercial vehicles. Raahi, which translates to “traveller” in Hindi, is positioned to compete with established players like Mahindra Treo, Piaggio Ape e-city and Bajaj RE.
The electric autorickshaw market has witnessed significant growth of late. According to government data, over 5,80,000 electric three-wheelers were sold in 2023, marking a remarkable 66 percent increase from the previous year. Three-wheelers constitute over 50 percent of total sales in this segment.
The pricing strategy for Raahi is crucial, given the competitive landscape. Existing players like Mahindra, Piaggio and Bajaj offer electric autorickshaws priced between Rs. 2 lakhs to upwards of Rs. 3.5 lakhs, catering to different market segments based on features and add-ons.
In addition to the e-autorickshaw launch, Ola Electric has been actively consolidating its position in the electric two-wheeler segment, where it enjoys market leadership. They have been taking initiatives like extending battery warranties, setting up fast-charging points and expanding service centre networks.
Ola Electric is also planing to establish its gigafactory, a strategic move aimed at achieving vertical integration in battery manufacturing. Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal had earlier stated the firm’s intention to allocate a significant portion of IPO proceeds towards this move.
Market dynamics, regulatory developments and consumer preferences will influence Ola Electric’s trajectory in the coming months. As the company prepares for its IPO and navigates the competitive EV landscape, all eyes will be on the reception of Raahi and its potential to drive Ola Electric’s growth story forward.
