Kia Clavis expected to be an all-new car, either a micro-SUV or a sedan
Kia has registered a new trademark in India with the name of Kia Clavis. The mysterious car is expected to launch by 2025 in India because next year they only plan to launch the new generation Kia Carnival and the Kia EV9 electric SUV.
Of late we haven’t spotted any Kia car under development, apart from the recently revealed Kia Sonet facelift. We believe the Clavis is currently in its initial phase of development. We can only speculate at this moment and our best guess is either a micro-SUV sharing mechanicals with the Hyundai Exter or a C-segment sedan based on the Hyundai Verna.
We haven’t seen a sedan yet from Kia in India, they only offer crossovers, compact SUVs and MPVs in the Indian market. It will be interesting to see Kia fight in the crowded C-segment sedan space which includes the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Vokswagen Virtus, Maruti Ciaz, etc. However, this is unlikely since the C-segment sedan space doesn’t bring in a lot of volumes.
The micro SUV segment which currently has the hot selling Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter might get a lot of volumes to Kia. If the Kia Clavis is introduced as an entry-level model for the company positioned under the Kia Sonet, it will put a big dent in the sales of the rivals.
For now, we just need to wait and watch and expect Kia to put the new mysterious car’s prototypes on test in the next few months. The recently revealed Kia Sonet will go on sale next month, with the price announcement scheduled sometime in January 2024.
