EV prices expected to match petrol vehicle costs within six months, says Gadkari
In a significant development for India’s electric mobility sector, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has projected that the prices of electric vehicles in the country will match those of petrol-powered vehicles within the next six months. The announcement was made during his address at the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo held on Wednesday.
Highlighting the government’s broader vision, Gadkari reiterated that the national policy continues to focus on reducing imports, enhancing cost-effectiveness, minimising pollution, and promoting indigenous manufacturing.
He also provided an update on the progress of infrastructure development, stating that the construction of the 212-kilometre Delhi-Dehradun access-controlled expressway is nearing completion and is expected to be finished within three months.
Speaking on India’s economic prospects, the minister stressed that improving infrastructure is essential to achieving the goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy. “Developing efficient road networks will help bring down logistics costs,” he noted.
Gadkari further underlined the government’s commitment to advancing smart transport and urban development, citing ongoing efforts in promoting electric-powered mass rapid transit systems.
Encouraging the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, he called for continued innovation in road construction methods to drive down costs and improve efficiency.
