Ford India is expecting its upcoming SUV, the EcoSport, to be the next big export success model after the small car Figo. The Figo changed Ford’s position in India by fetching high volumes and giving Ford a good market share. The Figo is manufactured in their Chennai plant and exported to 37 countries including ones in Africa, UAE, Nepal, etc. The American automaker expects the EcoSport to be the next big thing from their stable with good sales in India as well as in their export markets.
The Ford EcoSport will be launched shortly in India. With the compact SUV being the hot favourite of Indians currently the EcoSport is almost destined to be a success. Ford will manufacture the vehicle in Chennai as well as the new plant being built in Sanand, Gujarat, which will be completed by next year. Ford will then have a total production capacity of 4.4 lakh units and 6.1 lakh engines per year. Out of these, 1.1 lakh cars and 2.44 lakh engines will be exported. It is expected that the EcoSport will be exported to Europe as well.
The Ford EcoSport will be launched in India in both petrol and diesel versions. Ford is pitting high hopes on the petrol 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine to do very well in India. This is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged and fuel-injected engine which packs power of a large engine but delivers fuel efficiency of a small engine. The EcoSport has the recipe to become a huge success for Ford in India and with competitive pricing the American car company can achieve this goal. The EcoSport continues to outsell the Duster in Brazil by quite a margin.
