Ducati will officially enter India next year and will launch the recently unveiled Scrambler. The VW owned Italian company is betting big on the Indian market.
In a recent statement, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said that the Italian motorcycle marquee will make an official comeback to India in the first half of 2015 with the all new Scrambler motorcycle as part of its range of offerings for the country. To be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Thailand, the Ducati Scrambler is expected to be available at a price of Rs. 9 lakhs and will be positioned above the Monster 795 in the company’s lineup.
The Ducati Scrambler made its world debut at the 2014 Intermot Motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany and comes with an aggressive styling coupled with a basic design. However, touches like the LED marker lights, black alloy wheels and the long seat add to the droolworthy looks of the bike. Powering the Scrambler is the same 803cc V-twin engine from the Monster 796 that churns out 75 HP of power and 67.7 Nm of torque and has been retuned to provide smooth acceleration across the entire RPM range.
The suspension comes from Kayaba comprising of 41 mm upside-down forks at the front and a monoshock with adjustable spring load at the rear. The seat height is 790 mm and the claimed dry weight is 170 kgs. To be available internationally from January onwards, the Ducati Scrambler will be available in four versions namely Urban Enduro, Full Throttle, and Classic. However, it is not clear though if the company plans to bring all the versions to India. The Scrambler competes against the likes of the Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph Street Triple in the same space. With Ducati’s plans for India finally materializing, the news will definitely excite existing owners and prospective ones alike.
