The sales of the Dominar 400 have dropped which can be a concern for meeting the sales target of the power cruiser.
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is one of the most talked about motorcycles in recent times, all thanks to the aggressive price of this power cruiser. The sales of the flagship Bajaj was between 3000 to 3500 units in the past few months but has dropped to 2000 units which comes as a surprise considering Bajaj’s target to scale up production to meet a sales target of 10,000 units (exports combined).
In spite of the reduction in sales of the Dominar 400, Bajaj still dominates the 350-500cc segment. Royal Enfield’s Classic, which is the primary rival of the Dominar 400, is the top selling bike in the 200-500cc segment, led by the Classic 350 which accounts for more than 80% sales of the British brand. However, the Classic 500 sells under 200 units every month. Meanwhile the other motorcycle in the 350-500cc segment, the KTM Duke 390, sells around 800 units every month.
Even though the Dominar 400 saw a drop in sales, Bajaj Auto is confident that it will pick up in the future and the company exported 1000 units of its recently launched bike to Latin America. The company’s president of business development, S Ravikumar, justified the sales of its most advanced bike by comparing it with KTM, saying it took two years for the Austrian brand to reach the 2000 units per month sales number.
He also said that the company is focussed on the urban market and once the Dominar 400 is established there, Bajaj will take the motorcycle to other markets, i.e. semi-urban and rural areas.
