Fiat Could Restrict Power Output Of SRT Viper ACR

The hyper performance version of the iconic SRT Viper will be launched sometime in 2014. As tradition goes, this racing spec version of the Viper will be called the SRT Viper ACR. A render of how this Viper ACR may look like has been produced and it definitely seems very authentic given the design of the older SRT Viper ACR. The 2013 version’s styling has really upped the standard and classic appeal of the Viper and the ACR version definitely will add an edge to the design.

There has been a slight delay in the development of this incredible car, but apparently due to a completely unexpected problem. SRT want their tyre supplier, Pirelli, to create something rather special for the ACR which will be a few notches above the current P-Zero Corsa that the standard Viper is shod with. It is said that SRT engineers were extremely overwhelmed by the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres found on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and want something even better for their ACR.

What exact additions or improvements will feature on the ACR over the standard Viper are yet to be known but we can expect the typical drill that SRT goes through to make the ACR version more hardcore and track focused. We can expect aerodynamic upgrades like splitters, spoilers and wings along with bigger brakes, stiffer springs, stiffer anti-roll bars and adjustable dampers. The vehicle should be lowered and stripped of as much excess weight as possible.

The biggest question is whether parent company, Fiat, will allow the SRT team to up the power of the incredible 8.4-litre V8 engine. It currently pumps out 640 BHP of power and can easily deliver a lot more, but last time round Fiat did not allow the Viper to be more powerful that the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, which produced 731 HP of power. So we will have to wait and watch whether the ACR will get the power upgrade or it will be kept on a leash.
