VIP numbers likes 0001, 0002, 0111 and so on can now be purchased online via the bidding structure through the government’s e-auctioning website and will help to bring transparency further into the entire system of getting VIP numbers for vehicles.
In a first of its kind initiative in the country, the Delhi government has commenced its ambitious project of auctioning VIP numbers online for private vehicles. Called as the ‘registration mark of choice’ by the government officials, these numbers for four-wheelers are available for anyone who wishes to purchase the same via an online process wherein buyers have to bid for the desired number. This makes sure that the worthy buyer gets the desired number without having to shell out extra for the number under the table, thereby curbing a major issue of corruption across several RTOs.
Making the process simple, the VIP or fancy numbers are divided into a number of categories. Under category A, buyers can bid for a single digit number like ‘0001’ for a minimum amount of Rs. 5 lakhs. In the same way, numbers like 0002, 0003, 0004 up to 0009 fall under category B and can be yours for a minimum bidding amount of Rs. 3 lakhs. The numbers starting from 0010 to 0099 and 0786 come under category C and will cost buyers a minimum bid amount of Rs. 2 lakhs. In addition, numbers likes 0111, 0222, 0300, 0333, 0400, 0444, 0500, 0555, 0800, 0888, 0900, 0999, 2000, 2222, etc., are being auctioned for a minimum of Rs. 1 lakh.
In the first round of auctions, around 140 registration marks of choice will be put up for online auction by the government. Buyers need to register online and place their bid for the desired number. After a successful online registration, buyers will be given a Unique Acknowledgement Number (UAN) that will be open for the first eight working days from the start of the e-auction. Just like any other auction, the buyer with the highest bids will take home the VIP or fancy number to his prized possession.
