The news about Nissan and Ashok Leyland’s small car has been speculated from a long time now. However, in a recent discussion, Hinduja Group chairman, Mr. Dheeraj Hinduja, revealed that their business entity firm, Defiance Technologies, is working with Nissan to develop a small car in the near future. He has also cleared that Ashok Leyland will keep itself associated only with the LCV and HCV (Light and Heavy Commercial Vehicles) market rather than exploring its horizon into the passenger vehicles segment.
The Hinduja Group is a leading business giant which has acquired several business firms and has a wide reach in different industries across the world. The commercial vehicle leader, Ashok Leyland is also a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group and so is Defiance Technologies which has been working with Nissan in the development of a small car. Ashok Leyland is specifically concerned to maintain its legacy in heavy duty vehicles. The operations that have been handled by Defiance Technologies for small car development are certainly for Nissan.
The company has no any plans to indulge themselves in the small car market, however they will introduce more light commercial passenger vehicles like the upcoming Ashok Leyland Stile. The joint venture between Ashok Leyland and Nissan will help both the automakers in positive terms besides the generation of prospective business opportunities. The development of LCVs like Stile will help Ashok Leyland to expand their market presence, while Nissan will get a base for increasing its small cars portfolio in India.
