The Tigor should see its sales improve with the addition of CNG variants

Sales of sedan cars remained more or less muted in December 2021. Even the affordable compact sedan segment lost 22 percent of its sales year-on-year (YoY), indicating that the segment is on its last legs.

Maruti retailed 10,633 units of the Dzire which took the top spot in its segment, whereas Honda sold 3659 units of the refreshed second-generation Amaze last month.

The Tigor from Tata found just shy of 2000 new takers, while Hyundai sold 1715 units of the Aura this past month. Overall, the cars in the segment registered sales of 18,001 units.

The upcoming Skoda Slavia should shake things up a bit

Looks like there’s no car to rival Honda City’s dominance in the C-segment sedan market as it continues to extend its lead. The popular car registered sales of 3743 units in December 2021.

Second place in the December 2021 C-segment sedan sales chart was occupied by the Maruti Ciaz. The top automaker sold 1204 units of the car, while Hyundai could only retail 982 units of the Verna during the same period.

Skoda’s Rapid was driven home by 158 individuals last month, whereas the Volkswagen Vento found 70 buyers. In all, the cars in this segment registered sales of 6157 units with a 4 percent sales degrowth (YoY).
