The Ford Ecosport has sliped to the 5th position, losing out to the Mahindra XUV300.
In terms of sales, the compact SUV segment is one of the booming categories of cars in India. Known to offer the best of both worlds, compact SUVs prove to be a compelling proposition for buyers because of their dominative stance backed by affordable prices. It is survival of the fittest out there and the introduction of rivals has definitely tensed up the game. The segment will have two new entrants by the first half of 2020; the Skoda Kamiq and Kia’s compact SUV.
Topping the sales chart is the Maruti Vitara Brezza clocking sales of 13,658 units in December 2019 which is 41% growth from December 2018. A few months back, the Brezza had lost the top spot to Hyundai Venue. Since regaining the top spot, it has maintained the position for the 4th consecutive month.
The Hyundai Venue ranked 2nd on the list, recorded a slight fall of sales compared to November 2019 sales. The number stood at 9665 in November, whereas, it sold 9521 units in December 2019. Next up is Tata’s 5-star Global NCAP crash test rated compact SUV, the Nexon. The Nexon experienced a mere 1% negative YoY growth, it sold 4350 units in December 2019. The number is a good rise from November 2019 as it had sold 3437 units then.
The Mahindra XUV300’s volumes are falling down each month. The XUV300 is failing to cope up with its rivals as its pricing is on a bit higher side. It sold 3045 units in October 2019, 2224 units in November 2019 and 2132 units in December 2019. It took a place up in the chart as compared to the chart of November 2019 where Ford Ecosport was ranked in the 4th position.
Ford Ecosoport’s declining sales have slated it to the 5th position after selling just 1727 units. The Honda WRV and the Mahindra TUV300 sold 1398 and 884 units respectively, with Honda WRV experiencing 42% degrowth.
Compact SUVs are witnessing crazy demand in India, as apparent from the sales chart, the numbers are bullish. Cumulatively, the segment recorded a stunning 70% YoY growth.
