December saw a lukewarm market response yet the top three best selling two-wheelers remained the same.
The sales of the 2-wheelers continued to be on the downward spiral even in December 2018. Sales of some 2-wheelers saw significant dips while only a handful managed to reflect the positive performance. Hero Passion and Hero Glamour both saw a massive drop of 60 percent in their sales compared to the November figures. TVS sold 7600 units of the Star City and recorded a negative growth of 42 percent.
The three rank holders namely, Hero Splendor, Honda Activa and Hero HF Deluxe also saw a slump in sales. But the Hero Splendor continued to lead the motorcycle market with 1,78,411 units sold and the Honda Activa continued to be ahead in the scooter market with 1,74,393 units sold.
The other popular 2-wheeler, the TVS Jupiter moved a position above to 7th as TVS managed to sell 52,502 units of the Jupiter in December. Suzuki Access to managed to jump from the 12th position to the 9th in December. Hero sold 29,614 units of the Passion making it slide to 13th position from the 5th in December. Hero Destini 125 which had shown a growth rate of a whopping 189 percent in November continued to grow albeit at a much slower pace of 8 percent in December. That said with 6725 and 6281 units sold of the Hero Pleasure and Hero Maestro, both of them missed the top 25 list last month.
Amongst the other positive performers were the TVS Radeon and TVS Pep+ which showed growth rates of 2 percent and 25 percent respectively. With 11,882 units sold, the Radeon was the only motorcycle that showed a positive growth in the motorbike segment while 11,067 units of the Pep + made it re-enter the top-25 list.
In the super bike segment, Harley Davidson sold 29 units of the 883 Iron while Kawasaki sold 220 units of the Ninja 300. Jawa, which made its comeback in November continued a steady rise with 19 units sold. The updated Suzuki Hayabusa managed to sell 18 units in December.
