An official of the future Indian Grand Prix says it is possible the race could be staged at night. But Samir Gaur, Managing Director of the company in charge of construction of the New Delhi track, insisted that the debut event in 2011 will be held in the Indian daylight. A floodlit race in New Delhi would ensure an afternoon viewing time, instead of a morning one, for the bulk European audience. The track is due to be completed in April 2011.
“We want to see the outcome of the first race after which we will see if we can do a night race,” he said in an interview with Reuters. “The design stage is in progress and regarding construction, the investigations of the site have also started,” he added.
Gaur, in charge of the JPSK Sports company, insisted the global recession will not affect plans for India’s first Formula One race, despite the fact the event was originally scheduled to join the calendar next year.
