DC continues to test the Avanti even after commencing bookings for the sports car, but there is no word on the date for deliveries of the same.
Dilip Chabbria’s (DC) creation, the Avanti has been long awaited to hit the streets officially. While DC continues to promote the two-door sports car across malls in the country and on social media, it is still not done testing the car yet or that’s how it appears to be as spy shots continue to emerge of test mules across the country. In these latest set of images sent in by our reader Karthik, the Avanti is seen with temporary registration plates doing a fuel stop at a Shell petrol station in Pune.
Barred of any camouflage, the DC Avanti surely grabs a lot of attention for its unorthodox looks, not to mention the close resemblance to a certain Italian supercar. Originally revealed in 2012 at the Delhi Auto Expo, the Avanti has been extensively delayed offering that will finally hit the streets anytime this year. That said, the Pune-based manufacturer is yet to start deliveries of the two-door sports car even though the company has started accepting bookings and the first batch of 500 units is reportedly sold out.
Doing a quick reminder on the specifications, DC has already revealed the powertrain and other details on the Avanti that uses a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine sourced from Renault and is tuned to produce 250 BHP of power at 5500 RPM and 340 Nm of torque between 2750-5000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. With a kerb weight of 1562 kgs, the car is capable of the doing the nought to ton sprint in under 6 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 200 km/hr.
The DC Avanti comes with a host of optional extras including Bi-Xenon headlamps, Smart key with push button start-stop, reverse camera, custom exterior paint job, Alcantara seats, carbon fibre door pads and a lot more. In terms of safety, the Avanti is loaded with ABS, EBD, disc brakes on all four wheels, roll cage with side impact bars and a carbon fibre body. Interestingly though, the car does not get even a driver-side airbag as optional which is truly disappointing for a sports car that costs Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom). DC is charging a booking amount of Rs. 15 lakhs to get the ball rolling but once again, the delivery date seems to be out of sight.
