The DC Avanti has been tagged as India’s first homemade sports car and is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 250 PS and will be only made-to-order.
First showcased as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo, the DC Avanti has been a long awaited launch tagged as the country’s first self-developed sports car with test mules a common sight on Indian roads. Nonetheless, DC Design is now officially ready to bring the Avanti to public roads and has announced the launch for 15th April. Despite being a mid-engined sports car, the two-door Avanti has been designed to tackle Indian roads and measures 4550 mm in length, 1965 mm in width and 1200 mm in height while the ground clearance is a very impressive 170 mm.
The design has been one of the most talked about attributes of the DC Avanti and has been equally liked and criticised over the years. In either case, the two-seater model will surely grow on you with its sloping roofline and a distinctive rear profile. In terms of power, the Avanti will be using the new Renault sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine located behind the front seats that belts out 250 PS of power and 241 Nm of torque with power sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The car comes with a gross weight of 1580 kgs.
Braking duties on the DC Avanti are performed by the 330 mm front discs along with 295 mm discs at the rear and the vehicle gets ABS, EBD offered as standard, there are no airbags though. The sports car rides on massive 20-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, DC will be offering a touchscreen infotainment system and reverse camera for ease of parking. A host of customisation options is a given and the Avanti will be a made-to-order model. DC is currently asking a booking amount of Rs. 15 lakhs while delivery will be made after a period 2-3 months. The sports car is expected to be priced at around Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom).
