Datsun To Launch GO+ CNG Version In 2015

The Datsun GO+ will come fitted with a factory fitted CNG kit that will reduce the running costs on the sub 4-metre MPV. The launch is scheduled later on in the year.

The CNG version will be priced at around Rs. 40,000/- premium over the regular GO+

While the Datsun GO hatch may have not succeeded as per Nissan’s expectations, the Japanese auto major is making sure to change that for its next Datsun offering, the GO+ MPV. Essentially an elongated GO with third row of seats, the GO+ will be first-of-its-kind offering in the sub 4-metre MPV segmented that is expected to see more models turn up in the future. In the mean time, Nissan is making sure to address every customer’s need with the GO+ and is planning to launch a CNG equipped version later this year.

The regular Datsun GO+ uses the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 68 PS and 104 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox; the CNG variant will use the same powertrain but will see a marginal drop in power, while a bit of lag is also expected over the petrol only version. In addition, the inexistent boot capacity will be completely utilised with as good as no storage space at the back. A 7-seater so to speak, the third row on the GO+ is best suited for kids with no legroom for adults, but can be folded to make decent storage space.

Scheduled for launch on 15th January, the Datsun GO+ does not have a direct competitor as such but will be competing against the Maruti Eeco as well as the Omni in terms of seating options and pricing. Dealers have started accepting bookings for the GO+ at a refundable Rs. 11,000/- and the first customers will also be rewarded with a ‘Welcome Pack’ to sweeten the deal further. While the GO+ is expected to come with a starting price of Rs. 4 lakhs (ex-showroom), the CNG variant will be priced around Rs. 40,000/- more than the regular version.

The boot capacity will take a major crunch due to the inclusion of a CNG kit
