The most anticipated car in the entry-level hatchback segment, the Datsun GO is all set to be launched tomorrow with its prices being announced. However, we snooped in earlier and have the complete price list and variant details of the GO hatchback. Based on a low cost platform, Nissan is targeting the volumes segment with the Datsun brand in emerging markets and from our test drive earlier this month, we can conclude that it will be a game changer in the segment.
The Datsun GO will be available in three variants, namely D, A and T. The D will be the base variant in the lineup and is a bare bones version of the car (no body coloured bumpers). You don’t get audio system and power steering on any variant except the top T. The base variant sports a grey shade inside the cabin and black door handles; while the air-con unit, power windows and wheel covers are absent as well. The next variant is called ‘A’ and gets an air-con unit. The audio system is missing on this variant too and so are the power windows.
The top end version gets all the bells and whistles added to the features list. You get a mobile docking station, integrated 2-speaker audio system with AUX connectivity and a USB charging point. Other features include front power windows, air-con unit, power steering, body coloured door handles, wheel covers, body coloured bumpers, engine immobiliser, manual central locking and two-toned beige and grey interiors. A digital tachometer with distance to empty display and follow-me home headlamps are standard on all variants.
All the three variants get black ORVMs as standard, while safety features like ABS and airbags are absent on all variants. Powering the Datsun GO is the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine from the Nissan Micra tuned to offer 68 PS and 104 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Considering that the GO is light, the car has a good power to weight ratio and can do 0-100 km/hr sprint in 14 seconds. With a claimed ARAI mileage of 20.6 km/l, the GO is frugal as well. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs in the front and a drum brake setup at the rear.
