The driver-side airbag is available as optional on the Datsun GO and GO+ models, which comes on a new range-topping variant dubbed as the T (O).
Having miserably failed the Global NCAP crash tests last year, Nissan was heavily criticised for bringing an unsafe vehicle to the Indian market. The Global NCAP even wrote to Nissan at the time to withdraw the GO from the Indian market as it lacked the necessary safety features and basic structural strength needed to sustain an impact in case of a collision. Now, adding some respite to the safety concerned, Nissan has updated the Datsun GO and GO+ models with an optional driver side airbag.
The driver side airbag is available on the new range-topping ‘T (O)’ variant of the Datsun GO and GO+, which is priced at a Rs. 15,000/- premium over the outgoing T variant on both the models. In addition the airbag, the T (O) carries over features such as MID display, follow me headlamps, wheel covers, gear shift guide, front power windows, mobile docking station with AUX connectivity and two speakers. With the Datsun brand completing one year in the Indian market, the safety update is a certain welcome.
In terms of power though, everything remains the same, and the Datsun GO and GO+ continue to use the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is tuned to produce 68 PS of power at 5000 RPM and 104 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The GO is also capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 13.3 seconds. Both the models return an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 20.6 km/l. The Datsun models have been slow sellers in the market for a number of reasons but this much needed update might bring some respite to the automaker.
