The upcoming SUV from Datsun has been spotted testing in Chennai, India.
Just a couple of days after we brought to you that Datsun has confirmed the launch of an SUV (likely to be called the GO Cross) in India, the said model has now been spotted testing in Chennai. The car is camouflaged from top to bottom, left and right but looks spacious on the inside. The images have been received thanks to Mr. Ben Raja who is also an avid MotorBeam reader and viewer.
The Datsun GO Cross will be priced under the Rs. 10 lakh mark. Its size will be under 4-metres in length which will put it in a lower tax bracket and help the company price it competitively. The sub 4-metre length also means that it will be more of a crossover than a proper SUV which is what it exactly looks like in the images.
The SUV will get only a single petrol engine option. This will be a turbocharged version of the 1.0-litre motor that currently powers the Datsun redi-GO. The SUV is said to be based on the CMF-A platform which has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. Nissan is using the Datsun brand name to launch their products under the Rs. 10 lakhs mark.
The beginning of the testing of the Datsun GO Cross means that the launch is nearing. It will be competing with the Ford Freestyle, Honda WR-V and Hyundai i20 Active among others. It remains to be seen how the Indian market will respond to this crossover.
