One of the most promising cars of 2014, the Datsun GO will be launched in the next few weeks as the company has commenced bookings of the vehicle. The Nissan owned brand started manufacturing the Datsun GO earlier this month and a news paper advertisement reveals the bookings are now open (thanks to Simarjeet Singh for sharing the cut out of the ad). Datsun states in the ad that the GO hatchback is big on space and features, with best in class performance and low maintenance. The ad communicates brilliantly to the target audience.
The Datsun GO will be offered in three variants and one engine option. The pricing of the Datsun GO will be under Rs. 4 lakhs, making it an excellent buy for first time car buyers. With the underpinnings shared with the Micra, there isn’t anything at that price point which will match the Datsun GO in terms of space and ride quality. Powering the vehicle will be a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which outputs 68 HP of power and 104 Nm of torque, coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. ARAI certified mileage is 20.6 km/l. LPG and CNG versions will be offered in the future while a diesel engine is under consideration.
As can be seen above, the Datsun GO appears more superior than its rivals on paper, boasting of the longest wheelbase but mileage will play a crucial part in the success of the car. Nissan will produce 60,000 units of the Datsun GO every year and if the company manages to sell those units regularly, then the Japanese automaker is bound to see a massive growth in sales in the sub-continent. The second model from Datsun, the GO+ MPV was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and is likely to be launched later this year.
