The first ever production Datsun GO has just rolled out from the assembly line. The GO is the compact hatchback that will mark the return of Datsun after a revival by Nissan. The brand has made a comeback after 30 years and the last four years were spent in developing the new product GO. Nissan will showcase the vehicle at the 2014 Auto Expo this week along with another concept vehicle and the GO+ MPV from Datsun’s stable. The GO is basically aimed at first-time car buyers and it will be launched officially in March 2014.
Nissan has announced that the Datsun GO will be launched in three variants. All the three variants will be priced under Rs. 4 lakhs (ex-showroom). What we can speculate is that the entry-level variant will be a bare-bones version without any features and will be priced close to Rs. 3.30 lakhs. The middle variant is likely to feature body-coloured bumpers, power windows, power steering, central locking, etc. while the top variants might have all the previous goodies along with factory-installed stereo, alloy wheels and maybe safety features like ABS and airbags.
The Datsun GO will compete majorly with the Maruti Alto800, Chevrolet Spark and also Tata Nano to an extent. The GO will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which cranks out 68 HP of power and 102 Nm of torque. There won’t be any diesel engine option as of now but it would be great if the company would offer a factory-fitted CNG kit with the vehicle. The Datsun GO will also be produced in high growing markets like Indonesia, Russia and South Africa in the near future.
