New gen Renault Kwid EV spotted under Dacia branding, launch expected in 2025
The Dacia Spring EV, a compact electric vehicle that recently made its global debut, has been sighted in India, signalling a potential launch in the region. Spotted in a parking lot in Chennai, the vehicle was heavily camouflaged but featured the new Dacia logo prominently on the grille. This model is widely regarded as the next generation Renault Kwid EV.
The design of the Spring EV appears to share similarities with the current Kwid. The test vehicle showcased a distinct front-end layout, with headlamps positioned on the bumper and LED daytime running lights mounted above. The rear features wraparound tail lights connected by a black plastic insert. The vehicle also includes plastic cladding around the wheel arches and extends to the rear bumper, enhancing its rugged appearance.
The new Renault Kwid EV will be equipped with more features aimed at enhancing the driving experience. It boasts a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a sizeable 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, which is likely to offer a range of connectivity options including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Internationally, the Spring EV is available with two electric motor options. The entry-level model produces 44 BHP, while a more powerful version delivers 64 BHP. Both variants are powered by a 26.8 kWh battery pack, offering a range of around 220 km on a single charge. The EV supports fast charging capabilities, with a 30 kW DC charger capable of replenishing the battery quickly.
The spotting of the Dacia Spring EV in India suggests that Renault might be preparing to introduce this electric vehicle to the Indian market. With its compact size, competitive range and modern features, the Kwid EV could appeal to city drivers looking for an affordable electric vehicle option.
We can expect the electric hatchback to launch in India by next year. It will compete with the likes of Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, Tata Punch EV and more.
