The Renault Duster is just a week away from stamping its authority in the compact SUV segment in India. However Renault UK has launched the compact crossover in the UK before that, today. Badged as a Dacia (Renault’s low cost brand), the Duster bookings have commenced in the UK right away but deliveries will take place only in January 2013. The Dacia Duster range starts at a price of £8995 (Rs. 8.04 lakhs) for the 2-wheel drive variants, while the 4-wheel drive variants start at £10,995 (Rs. 9.83 lakhs).
The top end Dacia Duster Laureate with 4-wheel drive is priced at £14,995 (Rs. 13.40 lakhs) and is loaded with features such as electric windows, four airbags, leather steering, air-conditioner, CD radio, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and fog lights. An optional styling pack is available for £655 (Rs. 58,500/-), which consists of daytime running lights, chrome finished side bars and exhaust. Remember, this Dacia Duster will be produces by Renault-Nissan at their manufacturing facility in Orgadam near Chennai. Renault will be exporting right-hand drive versions of the Duster to the UK later this year.
The Dacia Duster is offered in three variants in the UK – Access, Ambiance and Laureate. The Duster is available in both petrol and diesel alternatives, which the engines being the same ones we will get in India. The 1.6-litre petrol engine produces 104 BHP, while the 1.5-litre DCi engine is the Step 4 of the k9k motor, producing 109 BHP. Interiors will be all black, unlike the Indian Duster, which gets a two-tone beige treatment. The Duster is expected to create raves in the UK, where it has no competition at that price.
